Torrance Shops Rehabilitation for the 950 Class Cars - 1942

By the early 1940s Pacific Electric was on a mission to rid itself of all wooden passenger cars. By late 1941 only 31 cars remained of the once 50 car 950 class. The remaining 950 cars were worn out and looked shabby. The outbreak of World War II brought on passenger loads never seen before on the PE. Suddenly every remaining PE car had to serve the war effort. PE scheduled the remaining 950s for rejuvenation at Torrance Shops. Following its shopping at Torrance Shops we see car 990, at West Hollywood on August 7, 1942. Nearly as good as new.
